Marchesi de' Frescobaldi:
Castiglioni - Where It All Began
The Castiglioni estate was created sometime in the first part of the eleventh century by the first generations of the Frescobaldi family. The earliest know written record of "Castillione Vallis Pese" dates to 1092. The first 700 years of Frescobaldi wine history began in the vineyards of Castiglioni here in Val di Pesa, just outside Florence in the Chianti Colli Fiorentino DOCG.
In the 1990's a complete renovation of the estate was completed, including vineyards planted to high density and the installation of a modern cellar, reflecting the family's commitment to tradition and innovation. The three wines produced here, a Chianti DOCG and two Tuscan IGT's, represent this commitment.
