Le Serre Nuove
Le Serre Nuove is Ornellaia's second wine, modeled on the classic classified-growths of Bordeaux. The wine is from the same estate and vineyards as Ornellaia, using the same viticultural practices and care in the winery. Every vineyard lot is given the opportunity to audition for the final blend of Ornellaia, but not all are used. These lots that are not part of the "first wine" are blended to create Le Serre Nuove. Since it is released six months earlier than Ornellaia, we look at it as a way to preview the vintage. And we drink it now while waiting for the Ornellaia to come around in the cellar.
The 2003 vintage of Le Serre Nuove is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Same regimen in the winery as Ornellaia.
