Tenuta dell 'Ornellaia Winery: Italy's Greatest Estate?
One could certainly make the argument for Tenuta dell' Ornellaia in Tuscany 's Bolgheri region. This estate has a track record envied by wineries all over the world. The two top wines from the estate, Ornellaia and Masseto, are sought out each year by serious collectors and have received critical acclaim that matches the first-growths of Bordeaux .

In 2001, Wine Spectator named the 1998 Ornellaia “Wine of the Year” after tasting almost 11,000 wines from all wine producing countries. And in October, 2004, the magazine awarded 2001 Masseto its highest rating, 100 points. Demand today for the wines of Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia has never been higher.

What makes Tenuta dell’ Ornellaia wines so spectacular? The unique Bolgheri appellation, the micro-climate of the estate, rigorous attention to the vineyard, and sublime winemaking. Over the years, we have had people tell us that these wines are the greatest they have ever tasted. Tough to argue when enjoying Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove and Le Volte.

Luce della Vite
Luce della Vite is a unique expression of the renowned wine territory of Montalcino. Luce, the first wine produced in Montalcino by blending Sangiovese and Merlot grapes, offers premium wines under the Luce and Lucente labels. Combining the roundness and suppleness of Merlot with the structure and elegance of Sangiovese seems a simple idea, but it took a well established winemaker, Lamberto Frescobaldi, to do that in the land of the world renowned Brunello di Montalcino, a wine made strictly from 100% Sangiovese.

The drive for innovation in developing Merlot in Montalcino led Marchesi de' Frescobaldi to look abroad, and found a partner in the Robert Mondavi Family. Together they decided to eschew the coveted Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. and create a wine from Montalcino that reflected the traditions of Tuscany and the modern spirit of innovation both families embraced.

The families planted a new estate in Montalcino to Sangiovese, and used some of the Merlot from the Frescobaldi's Castelgiocondo estate in Montalcino (confident in the Frescobaldi's success with their Lamaione wine, 100% Merlot). The result was Luce, a Montalcino blend of Sangiovese and Merlot that not only blends the grape varieties but the traditions of Tuscany and California.

Marchesi de' Frescobaldi
A thousand years ago...that's when a man in Tuscany known as Boldo met and married a woman named Fresca, and the Frescobaldi Family began. Three hundred years later, circa 1300 AD, the family began making wine.

As the financial, military and cultural fortunes of Europe rose and fell, so did those of the Frescobaldi's. Today, the thirtieth and thirty-first generations of the family are still focused on growing and making wine in Tuscany and that things are on the rise. In fact, the family wine estates in some of the most important areas of Tuscany (Chianti, Chianti Rúfina, Pomino, Brunello di Montalcino, Morellino di Scansano, and, with partners, Bolgheri) are producing consistently excellent wines.

The last twenty-five years could be called, if you are a wine lover, Italy's second Renaissance. Frescobaldi is no exception to this trend. They have invested considerably in their vineyards and wineries, lowering yields and installing the best winemaking equipment. You can see the results in their wines: Castiglioni, Castelgiocondo, Castello di Pomino, Nipozzano, and Remole.
